CHENNAI: The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu conducted a surprise inspection at Puzhal Central Jail, one of the largest prison complexes in India, on Friday. During his visit, he interacted directly with the prison inmates. Senior police and prison officials, including ADGP Dr. Sandeep Rai Rathore, Chennai Range DIG T. Palani, and Superintendent Krishnaraj, accompanied the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister reviewed the basic amenities available to the prisoners, the quality of food served in the prison, and the medical center facilities. He sought feedback directly from the inmates regarding the jail infrastructure and inquired about their grievances and needs. Additionally, he inspected the classrooms, library, computer training center, isolation ward, visitors’ hall, and de-addiction center. He also visited the high-security block within the Puzhal prison premises.
Following the jail inspection, the Chief Minister inspected the adjacent Puzhal Police Station. He reviewed official registers and station records and personally checked the SI’s office room. Friday’s prison inspection was part of his ongoing series of surprise visits to various government institutions across the state. Three months prior, he had carried out similar surprise inspections at a government hospital and a Dalit students’ hostel in Chennai.
