THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: What began as a routine verification by the Thumba police regarding foreign nationals illegally overstaying their visas has transformed into a comprehensive human trafficking and exploitation investigation. Acting on a credible intelligence tip-off on the night of June 27, the police raided the Kumar Gardens residential complex at Kattela. While the search initially led to the booking of two Thailand nationals for visa violations, further interrogation exposed a deeper racket, resulting in the arrest of two local men accused of trafficking and exploiting foreign citizens for unlawful financial gain.
According to official police logs, law enforcement received specific inputs that three foreign nationals were residing without valid documents at a rented facility in the Kuzhivila Ward of Attipra Village. Realizing that waiting for a court-issued warrant might tip off the occupants and allow them to flee, the police team drafted an advance search memorandum and executed the raid around 8:30 PM. The search uncovered three Thai women inside the villa. Among them, Siriluck (42) and Sukanya Koonsak (29) produced digital copies of their passports on their mobile phones, which revealed that their visas had expired in April 2025 and August 2025, respectively. Consequently, a case was registered against them under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. The third woman possessed legitimate documentation and was not booked.
The investigation took a serious turn during the detailed questioning of the detained foreign nationals. The women formally alleged that they had been deceived, trafficked, and systematically exploited by two men, identified as Asif and Adheesh Krishnan (alias Chippu). The victims informed the police that the duo had placed them under immense pressure, forcing them to remain confined within the rented house to carry out immoral activities aimed at generating high financial profits for the accused. Acting swiftly on these statements, the police registered a second criminal case against the duo for human trafficking and exploitation. Both accused were arrested and subsequently remanded into judicial custody by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, while the police plan to seek their custody to analyze mobile transactions and data.
