PALAKKAD: The Muslim Students Federation (MSF) has demanded that a criminal case be registered against former Higher Education Minister K.T. Jaleel for publicly humiliating a student during a public event in Mannarkkad. MSF Palakkad District General Secretary Ameen Rashid reacted that physically disciplining the student amounts to a clear violation of child rights. He further demanded that the Child Rights Commission take suo motu cognizance of the matter.
Ameen Rashid stated that such behavior, which hurts a child’s self-esteem and mental health, should never have occurred from a former minister. Children should be taught not through humiliation or intimidation, but by building their confidence with encouragement and affection. Those who are meant to be role models in society ought to uphold these basic values, Rashid emphasized.
“Is this how students are felicitated—by insulting them? What kind of former minister is this?” asked Ameen Rashid. He questioned whether someone who managed the Higher Education portfolio in the previous government should behave in such a manner. Mentally distressing students and pinching their ears in public cannot be accepted under any circumstances. Asserting that K.T. Jaleel behaved as though he held a personal grudge against the student, MSF clearly demanded an apology from Jaleel for his conduct in Mannarkkad.
The controversial incident occurred while K.T. Jaleel was inaugurating the victory celebration event for Wards 19, 20, and 22 of the Mannarkkad Municipality. Addressing students seated in the audience from the stage, Jaleel asked, “Hey, do you know how to write an address?” He then called the student up to the stage and asked him to write his parents’ names and address in Hindi. When a few mistakes occurred, visuals emerged showing Jaleel pinching the student’s ear on stage. Following the incident, severe criticism has been mounting against the former minister across social media platforms.
