THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government has reconstituted the State Waqf Board with IUML leader M. C. Mayin Haji as its new chairman, dissolving the previous board less than seven months after its constitution. The Kerala High Court on Saturday declined to grant an interim stay on the government’s action.
The state government issued an official order on Friday dissolving the previous board headed by K. S. Hamsa, which was constituted in March this year under the previous LDF administration. A new nine-member committee was appointed despite more than four years remaining in the tenure of the previous board.
K. S. Hamsa challenged the government order in the Kerala High Court. However, during a special sitting convened to hear the petition, the court refused to stay the reconstitution of the Waqf Board.
