NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the central government has delivered a severe blow to narco-syndicates through a multi-agency crackdown codenamed ‘Operation Trident’.
Executing coordinated early-morning raids on October 23, multi-agency anti-narcotics enforcement teams simultaneously struck 38 locations across Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur, dismantling a major transnational narco-cartel. The operation exposed illicit hawala transactions worth Rs 100 crore, resulted in the freezing of 1,424 bank accounts, and led to the attachment of illegal properties valued at Rs 17.82 crore. Furthermore, law enforcement authorities seized 500 detonators and Rs 12 lakh in cash, leading to the arrest of 18 key syndicate operatives.
The international syndicate had established a cross-border trafficking channel spanning the borders of India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, exploiting the region’s ‘Death Triangle Corridor’ for drug movement. Reaffirming the administration’s resolve to eradicate all narcotics networks from the country by December 31, 2029, Shah emphasized that India will relentlessly hammer until the last nail is driven into the coffin of drug cartels. The Union Home Minister commended the joint anti-narcotics team—comprising central enforcement agencies alongside the police forces of Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur—for successfully executing the high-impact operational strike.
