Karnataka Governor Accepts Siddaramaiah’s Resignation; D K Shivakumar Likely to Take Oath as CM on Monday.

BENGALURU: Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has officially accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The Governor returned to the state last night, paving the way for the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister soon. Meanwhile, the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) meeting is unlikely to take place today. The meeting will be convened only after Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar, who are currently in Delhi, return to Bengaluru. If the meeting takes place tomorrow, the swearing-in ceremony will happen on Monday. Only the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers will take the oath initially, while the full cabinet expansion is reported to take place only after the Rajya Sabha elections.

Siddaramaiah is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge today. Senior leaders, including Minister K J George, are accompanying Siddaramaiah in Delhi. Notably, Siddaramaiah rejected the high command’s proposal yesterday to accept a Rajya Sabha seat and move to national politics. He has put forward conditions stating that he wants to remain in state politics and that his son must be included in the new cabinet. Furthermore, he has demanded that more than ten ministers in the new government should be from his faction. The Congress high command will discuss Siddaramaiah’s concerns today. Concurrently, senior MLAs have demanded that only those who have served as MLAs more than three times should be considered for ministerial positions. Siddaramaiah is also likely to demand that the KPCC President post, currently held by D K Shivakumar, be given to Satish Jarkiholi.

Siddaramaiah alleged yesterday that several elements had tried to spread falsehoods and character-assassinate him during his tenure. However, he emphasized that he never backtracked an inch from his goals or the promises made to the public. Siddaramaiah expressed immense satisfaction in fulfilling 300 out of the 550 promises made to the people of Karnataka. He added that the Congress party had given him the opportunity to serve the people of Karnataka twice as Chief Minister and extended his gratitude to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge.
