NEW DELHI: Penguin Random House India has reportedly backed out of publishing Sonia Gandhi’s autobiography in India. The decision comes after Sonia Gandhi reportedly rejected requests for certain editorial changes and deletions in the manuscript.
Penguin has stepped back from publishing the memoir titled Belonging: A Journey of Love in India. With Penguin stepping out of the much-anticipated and widely discussed book, several leading publishers in the country are approaching the author for its publishing rights. Reports suggest that HarperCollins is closer to finalizing the agreement.
The book was previously advertised to be released on November 10. Although Sonia Gandhi has authored and edited books in the past, publishers noted that this is her most open and personal autobiographical account. Penguin Random House had previously promoted the book as a heartwarming memoir by one of the world’s most prominent women political leaders, detailing her love, family, and personal vision for India.
