The newly released White Paper reveals that the state is reeling under a severe financial crisis. The total public debt of the state has now accumulated to a staggering ₹5.07 lakh crore, according to the official document.
During the last financial year, the government spent ₹39,904 crore purely on the payment of salaries. Additionally, ₹27,885 crore was spent on pensions and ₹29,138 crore was utilized for the repayment of loans. The report highlights that the state’s debt burden is more than one and a half times higher compared to other states.
According to the revenue figures tabled by the government in the Legislative Assembly, a massive 77.6 per cent of the state’s total income is consumed just to meet the expenses of salaries and pensions.
