KANNUR: The Kerala state government has officially ordered a Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) probe against CPM leader and former Kannur District Panchayat President P.P. Divya over allegations of awarding a construction contract to a private firm without floating a mandatory tender.
The Home Department has issued formal directives to initiate a preliminary inquiry into the matter. The primary allegation against Divya is that during her tenure as the head of the Kannur District Panchayat, she bypassed statutory norms and procurement guidelines to grant a construction contract to a firm named ‘Karton India’ without conducting competitive bidding.
The state government acted upon an official complaint lodged by KSU State Vice President Muhammad Shammas. Along with P.P. Divya, the government has named her husband and former Kannur District Panchayat Secretary Abdul Latheef as respondents in the probe order.
The Vigilance team will investigate whether criminal conspiracy or illicit financial transactions occurred in connection with the contract allocation.
