The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack launched by Houthi forces targeting multiple civilian regions across Saudi Arabia. The escalation saw Saudi air defense systems intercept two inbound ballistic missiles, with shrapnel and debris falling across Makkah’s Wadi Al-Mughammas as well as various residential areas in Jeddah, Taif, and Rabigh governorates.
In an official statement, Albudaiwi noted that the targeted attack demonstrated a blatant disregard for civilian lives and human safety, marking a highly dangerous escalation that imperils broader regional security and stability. He emphasized that exposing Makkah to the immediate hazards of missile strikes constitutes an unforgivable violation of the sanctity of the Islamic Holy Sites and a direct provocation to the religious sentiments of Muslims worldwide, stressing that such hostile acts cannot be condoned under any pretext.
Reaffirming regional solidarity, the Secretary-General stated that Saudi Arabia’s national security remains an intrinsic part of the collective security framework of all GCC member states. He pledged that member countries stand firmly united alongside the Kingdom in countering external aggression and fully endorse every sovereign measure taken to safeguard Saudi territory, citizens, and expatriate residents.
Albudaiwi further commended the high operational readiness and efficiency of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces in successfully neutralizing the airborne threats. He urged the international community to adopt a decisive stance and enforce stringent mechanisms to curb ongoing maritime and trans-border military aggressions in the region.
