RIYADH: A Malayali nurse who was detained at the Riyadh airport on October 10 over the possession of controlled substances has been cleared of all charges and released by the Saudi Drug Control Department after being found innocent. The released nurse has been identified as Philomina, a native of Wayanad, Kerala. She was initially taken into custody for detailed interrogation after authorities intercepted restricted items in her luggage.
Following the Houthi attack targeting the Riyadh airport on the same day, Philomina’s family had raised concerns and filed complaints stating that she had boarded a flight from Jeddah to Riyadh for work, producing her boarding pass as evidence. Subsequent inquiries revealed that she had been detained by law enforcement agencies at the airport. Upon completing a thorough investigation, Saudi authorities confirmed her innocence and released her without charges.
