‘Operation KALARI’: Sports Department Launches Scheme to Revamp Kerala’s Sports Infrastructure.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs has launched ‘Operation KALARI’ (Kerala Alliance for Local Athletic Revamp and Infrastructure), a strategic initiative designed to revive and professionally maintain existing sports assets across Kerala. Built on a public-private partnership model, the project invites sponsors to support the repair, renovation, and equipment upkeep of stadiums, swimming pools, sports hostels, and gymnasiums.

The initiative prioritizes scientific maintenance over constructing new facilities, ensuring high standards for school, college, and district academies. The government and Sports Council will retain full ownership and administrative control, strictly prohibiting the sale, lease, or transfer of assets. Sponsors can contribute through renovation projects, adopt assets for three to five years, supply modern equipment, or upgrade athlete amenities like dormitories and physiotherapy centers.

Partners will be recognized across Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Community categories. Corporate entities (via CSR), NRIs, and individuals can join the initiative, which also places a strong emphasis on creating accessible facilities for female and differently-abled athletes. Managed by the Sports Kerala Foundation (SKF), the scheme will feature an online dashboard for real-time tracking. Initially launching as a pilot project across 25 to 50 assets, the scheme will be expanded statewide after a six-month review.
