BENGALURU: Two men sustained injuries following an unexplained explosion at an under-construction building located on Jeremiah Road within Bengaluru’s Pulakeshinagar locality on Tuesday afternoon, police reported. According to preliminary police findings, the blast occurred when one of the men pressed a button on an object resembling a battery-powered torch.
However, the exact technical nature of the device and the precise sequence of events leading up to the explosion remain under thorough investigation. Authorities have not yet confirmed the involvement of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar stated that investigators are awaiting comprehensive forensic reports to establish the nature of the recovered material. “There is no cause for panic at this stage.
With the festive season ongoing, our security apparatus is on high alert. We are investigating all angles without ruling out any possibilities,” he said. The injured individuals have been identified as Allauddin, a migrant worker from Assam, and Suraj, a security guard from Uttar Pradesh employed at the site. One of the men has been discharged following medical treatment, while the other remains hospitalized. Police noted that as the sole witnesses, the two men have provided contradictory accounts regarding how the device came into their possession.
Investigators are cross-verifying their statements and conducting background checks on both individuals through authorities in their respective home states. The property owner and residents of adjacent residential flats are also being questioned.
Local residents reported that the explosion, which took place at approximately 2:30 PM, was deafening, initially leading many to suspect a domestic cooking gas cylinder blast. Specialized teams—including the Anti-Terrorism Cell, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, the Internal Security Division, and the Forensic Science Laboratory—subsequently cordoned off and inspected the scene.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other central intelligence agencies have been formally briefed on the incident. Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge confirmed that recovered material has been submitted for rigorous forensic analysis, noting that official conclusions will be released once the audit is finalized.
