THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More details regarding the mother’s statement have emerged in connection with the tragic death of a one-and-a-half-year-old boy in Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram. According to her statement, she directly witnessed the stepfather brutally assaulting the toddler. Meanwhile, the postmortem report has come out, confirming extensive marks of physical torture all over the child’s body. The child’s maternal uncle alleged that despite lodging a prior complaint regarding the abuse, the police failed to take timely action. The Nedumangad police are currently gearing up for a detailed investigation into the case. By nightfall, the police officially recorded the arrests of both the stepfather and the mother.
The child was rushed to the Thiruvananthapuram SAT Hospital the other day by relatives, who claimed that food had choked in the toddler’s throat while feeding. However, the child passed away soon after. Following the death, the family members of both the mother and the stepfather approached the police with an official complaint alleging foul play. The complaint clearly stated that the child had been subjected to severe physical torture. Subsequently, during the inquest proceedings conducted by the police, visible marks of physical assault were detected on the child’s body, prompting the police to register a case against both the mother and the stepfather.
The preliminary postmortem report indicates that the child was subjected to severe physical abuse shortly before his death, causing injuries even to his internal organs. A deep wound was also discovered on the toddler’s genitals. According to the preliminary findings, the primary cause of death of the one-and-a-half-year-old was internal bleeding triggered by a severe head injury. Shockingly, the deceased child’s body also bore painful marks where he had been intentionally burnt with lit cigarettes.
