Severe Medical Negligence at Manjeri Medical College: Patient’s Leg Nerves Severed During Surgery.

MANJERI: A serious complaint of medical negligence has been raised against the Manjeri Medical College Hospital. It is alleged that during a surgery conducted to treat leg pain, the critical nerves and blood vessels of the patient’s leg were severed. The relatives of the patient told the media that the elderly woman, who had walked into the hospital on her own, is now in a critical state where her leg may have to be amputated. The victim, identified as Parvathy (73), a native of Chungathara in Nilambur, is currently undergoing emergency treatment at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. The surgery was performed at the Manjeri Medical College on May 12.

By evening after the surgery, the relatives who were accompanying the patient noticed an unusual coldness in her operated leg and immediately informed the doctor on duty. A scanning process conducted subsequently revealed that the blood circulation to the patient’s leg had completely stopped. However, the relatives alleged that the duty doctor hid this critical information from them and bluntly asked them to shift the patient to some other hospital immediately.

Following this, the relatives quickly shifted the elderly woman to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. By now, the patient has already undergone nearly three corrective surgeries at Kozhikode to rectify the damage. Meanwhile, the Manjeri hospital authorities stated that a detailed explanation can be given only after checking the matter thoroughly.
